Why Doesn't Taylor Swift Have a Thanksgiving Anthem?
The Low-Hanging Holiday Harvest
Everyone says Mariah Carey is the Queen of Christmas because she makes millions in royalties from All I Want for Christmas is You.
She isn’t the only to cash in on Christmas songs, there’s Bing Crosby of course. But every pop star wants to release a Christmas album. Carrie Underwood. Jewel. Blaine from Glee.
Other holidays are totally neglected. At Halloween, the only classic song is Monster Mash. After that you have to turn to parody raps by Youtubers like Danny Gonzalez’ Spooky Man. Sample lyrics: Used to be a spooky boy but I grew some Yeah, now I’m even more gruesome.
I remain baffled that there is no classic Thanksgiving songs. This seems like the perfect market fit for a country star- romanticizing Americana is like country music’s number one thing! There’s even a hit song about dinner at Applebee’s. Where is our iconic Thanksgiving banger?
There is so little competition that I can only imagine the first star to pull this off will essentially create generational wealth through a Thanksgiving annuity.
This person doesn’t have to be Taylor Swift but it seems fitting to me! All Swifties know that Swift loves accolades, money, and setting records. She’s running out of records and self-imposed challenges to break other than the EGOT.
Carey’s grip on Christmas might be too entrenched but she could run the rest of the calendar. She already has many plausible contenders for Valentine’s Day but Thanksgiving remains unclaimed.
Some holidays might be too silly for anyone outside parody acts (Arbor Day) but the absence of go-to songs for Thanksgiving and Mother’s Day is really weird.
